Three girls stand in a group at CampCARE 2024.

If you’ve been seeing the yard signs and social media posts, you may be wondering, “What is North Texas Giving Day?

North Texas Giving Day is an annual day of philanthropy that mobilizes thousands of individuals to support local North Texas nonprofits, fostering community engagement and driving positive change. If you’re passionate about making a difference and want to contribute to a cause that provides critical support to those in need, North Texas Giving Day is an ideal opportunity. Cancer Care Services has participated in North Texas Giving Day for over 10 years!

What is North Texas Giving Day?

North Texas Giving Day is an online giving extravaganza that typically takes place in September. Organized by the Communities Foundation of Texas, it’s the largest community-wide giving event in the nation. This day brings together donors, nonprofits, and volunteers to spotlight the incredible work done by North Texas organizations and encourages charitable giving.

Here’s how it works: During the event, individuals can make donations to their favorite participating nonprofits through a central online platform. In addition, there are opportunities for matching funds and prizes that further amplify the impact of your contribution.

Why Support Cancer Care Services?

Cancer Care Services provides essential support services to individuals and families affected by cancer. We offer financial, emotional, and practical support programs, including financial assistance, transportation services, and emotional support. Your North Texas Giving Day donation means no one has to cope with cancer alone.

How to Give to Cancer Care Services on North Texas Giving Day:

1. Mark Your Calendar: North Texas Giving Day is on September 19, 2024. Early Giving starts on September 1, 2024!

2. Visit the Giving Day Website: On the day of the event (or starting September 1), go to Cancer Care Services’ North Texas Giving Day page.

3. Make Your Donation: Follow the prompts to make your donation. You can choose to make a one-time gift or set up recurring donations. Every dollar helps, and your contribution, no matter the size, makes a difference for families coping with cancer.

4. Spread the Word: Use your social media platforms to encourage friends and family to participate. Share Cancer Care Services’ mission and your personal reasons for supporting them. The more people who know about the event and the cause, the greater the collective impact. North Texas Giving Day is all about engaging your community!

5. Stay Connected: After the event, stay engaged with Cancer Care Services. Follow our social media and sign up for our e-newsletter to see the impact of your donation!

North Texas Giving Day is a celebration of generosity and community spirit. By supporting Cancer Care Services, you’re not just making a donation; you’re creating hope for those grappling with the challenges of cancer. Join the North Texas Giving Day movement to walk alongside cancer patients, survivors, and their loved ones.

What is Revenge of the Beards 2024?

Revenge of the Beards is a Fort Worth beard and mustache competition hosted by the North Texas Beard Alliance.

“Prepare yourself for the intergalactic extravaganza: BEARD WARS EPISODE III – Revenge of the Beards! On May the 4th, step into the Rusty Nickel Ice House in Fort Worth Texas and witness the most ferocious Beard and Mustache Competition in the Galaxy. With lightsaber-sharp style and boundless creativity, participants will unleash their facial hair prowess, all in support of Cancer Care Services of Fort Worth. This event promises an experience that will be a force to be reckoned with for both The Jedis, The Sith, and even the ordinary folks.
Embark on a thrilling pub crawl and meet and greet on the historic Fort Worth stockyards on the night of May the 3rd. It’ll be a night filled with wookie-worthy adventures and camaraderie, where bearded warriors from all walks of life can bond over their shared love for facial follicles.
But beware, for on Saturday afternoon, May the 4th, an epic beard battle will ensue at Rusty Nickel Ice House. This venue, much like the Mos Eisley Cantina, harbors a colorful cast of characters and is the perfect stage for hairy heroes to showcase their astounding facial creations. As Obi-Wan Kenobi once said, “You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.” So, let us approach this contest with caution and may the best beard win!
But the saga doesn’t end there! On Sunday, May the 5th, join us for a brunch that’s simply out of this galaxy. Savor delectable delights while basking in the company of fellow beard enthusiasts. It’s the perfect opportunity to recharge your Jedi powers or embrace your Sith side, all while relishing the joy of extraordinary facial hair.
So gather your combs, trimmers, and grooming tools, and prepare to embark on an unforgettable journey through the Star Wars-themed Beard Wars. Remember, in this competition, the beard is strong, and the mustache is your ally. May the 4th be with you as you conquer the galaxy with your magnificent facial mane!”

Apex Capital Supports Cancer Care Services: How Chemo Jackets Started a Fundraising Tradition

Blog header that has a strip of different color cancer ribbons and text that says "Apex Capital Supports Cancer Care Services"

This article first appeared on the Apex Capital News Blog and is republished here.

Nearly a decade ago, 2014 to be exact, Apex Capital added Fort Worth-based Cancer Care Services to the list of local charities that we support. At Apex, we have an active Social Responsibility program that fundraises and donates money as well as goods to local non-profit organizations dedicated to making our community a better place. Apex’s core values perfectly align with the mission to make our community a better place.

We also believe in taking care of each other because we are a family. So, it was in 2014 when a co-worker was going through chemo, that her Apex family immediately responded by raising money to buy her a chemo jacket so that her treatments would be more comfortable. From there sprang the idea to help others going through cancer with chemo jackets. Another Apexer at the time was a Cancer Care Services board member and he suggested it would be the perfect organization to donate money or chemo jackets.

Chemo Jackets Were the Catalyst

“I contacted Cancer Care and started the process,” says Vicky Sauer, an Apex Account Executive and a longtime member of the Corporate Citizenship Committee. “We started with donations to buy them chemo jackets, which they loved. Then we did a Goods Drive to buy things for the center such as supplies. Before long, we did another drive and made enough money to purchase a new couch and loveseat for the center’s living area.”

Nine years later, all of us at Apex remain proud of our relationship with Cancer Care Services, an organization that supports cancer patients, cares for caregivers, and empowers survivors to reduce the impact of cancer in Tarrant County. The non-profit serves all cancer types and provides emotional, financial, and practical support to those impacted by cancer at no cost.

We Make the Fundraising Fun

How does Apex raise funds for Cancer Care Services? We make sure to organize fun events that include the entire staff. Here are a few examples:

  • T-shirt donations: Apexers donate for the privilege of wearing a T-shirt to work once a week. At the end of the quarter, we tally up those donations and send off a check.
  • Virtual garage sales: We encourage Apexers to clean out their closets – gently-used clothing, cookware, shoes, even furniture – and then create an online garage sale to raise funds. It’s a blast to watch Apexers outbid each other.
  • Bake sales: Can Apexers bake? Oh yes, they can! These bake sales are always a huge hit. We get bakers in double digits and buyers in triple digits. Because who doesn’t like sweet treats?
  • Apex donations: As if that isn’t enough, Apex donates annually to Cancer Care Services.

“What a gift Apex is to Cancer Care,” says Rhea Jackson, Director of Community Engagement at Cancer Care Services. “I have seen many exciting events over the past five years on their social media, creating engagement with their employees all to benefit Cancer Care. The continued support of Apex employees and company help ensure Cancer Care can continue to provide services to cancer patients and their families at no cost to them.”

Apex’s Corporate Citizenship Committee, a robust part of Apex’s company culture, consists of 50 members. We currently support a dozen local non-profit organizations. The Corporate Citizenship program at Apex includes at least one event a month to raise funds for these organizations.
