Beads of CourageĀ is a national and international program that supports and strengthens children and teens coping with serious illness and their families. Each child is first given the Beads of Courage bead color guide and a length of string and beads that spell out their first name. Then, colorful beads, each representing courage during their treatment experiences are given to the child by their professional health care provider as determined by the Beads of Courage Bead Prescription.
The Beads of Courage Program is available for the following:
- Cancer and Blood Disorders
- Cardiac Conditions
- Burn Injury Recovery
- Neonatal Intensive Care
- Chronic Illness
- Rehabilitation Care
- Trauma Recovery
- Pediatric Intensive Care
- Palliative and Supportive Care

How to apply to Beads of Courage:
- Connect with your child’s hospital or clinic to see if they are a partner with Beads for Courage.
- If your hospital or clinic is not partnered with Beads for Courage, you can apply for their Beads in the Mail program.
- Check the eligibility requirements and apply using the online application.
- There are also other programs available for siblings or those who do not qualify for Beads in the Mail.
