Do you need help getting to and from your cancer treatment? Transportation costs and logistics can be difficult to navigate for cancer patients and their caregivers. We have compiled a list of non-emergency medical transportation assistance for cancer patients, including local resources.

Your Insurance Coverage May Offer Transportation Benefits

First, consider your insurance coverage and whether your specific insurance plan offers transportation benefits.

  • For Medicare recipients, please call your Medicare Advantage plan to determine whether transportation benefits are included in your specific plan.
  • For Medicaid recipients, transportation benefits are included. Please call your specific Medicaid health plan to arrange a ride.     • If you receive Medicaid but are not enrolled in a specific Medicaid health plan, call the Medical Transportation Program number at 877-633-8747.

Public City Transportation in Tarrant County

Secondly, consider where you are currently living and if public transportation is available.

  • For Fort Worth residents, Trinity Metro offers bus rides, an intercity railway, ACCESS Paratransit rides, and ZIPZONE vehicles. The number for additional questions is 817-215-8600.     • Also, individuals who have a disability can sign up for ACCESS Paratransit, which will pick up a rider directly from their residence and drop off directly at their destination.   • For Arlington residents, the public transportation system offered within the city is called Via, an on-demand rideshare service. The number to schedule a ride is 817-784-7382.   • For Grand Prairie residents, the public transportation system offered within the city is called Via, an on-demand rideshare service. The number to schedule a ride is 214-253-0847.     • Also, individuals who are at least 60 years of age or have a physical or mental disability (cancer included) can sign up for the Grand Connection Transit Service, a door-to-door paratransit service. Nationwide and Local Nonprofits Offering Transportation Assistance

Finally, consider what nationwide and local agencies provide services to the community, though more qualifications may be required for non-emergency medical transportation assistance.

  • The American Cancer Society (ACS) has a ride program called Road to Recovery. For more information to see if this program is available in your area, call 1-800-227-2345 or visit the website: ACS: Road To Recovery
    • Nationwide, the ACS offers a transportation grant that agencies can apply for, though it does not provide direct assistance to patients; therefore, ask the social worker or nurse at your treatment facility to see if the facility offers transportation assistance.
  • For surrounding cities in Tarrant County that are listed on its website, Catholic Charities Fort Worth (CCFW) offers transportation services for medical and non-medical appointments.
