4 Items You Need for Housing Assistance

Tarrant County has many local resources that may be able to help with your financial
needs regarding housing. Whether you need housing assistance to cover your utility bills, rental or mortgage payment, or other housing expenses, help may be available for your specific need.

Below you will find common documents requested to apply for any financial assistance. Always have these items readily available whether you are speaking to a representative over the phone, meeting with them in person, or applying online.

Documents Needed for Housing Assistance

  1. ID
Your legal identification that contains your full name, current residential address, and other government information may be necessary to prove your status at your current residence and to match other documents to your information. For example, your full name and social security number may be listed on a mortgage agreement and may provide proof of ownership of a property or structure.
  2. Lease or Mortgage Agreement
A lease agreement or mortgage agreement contains important information that may help you qualify for assistance. Typically these documents include a description of the property, the rental or payment amount, payment due dates, fees, and other information that may be necessary for qualification.
  3. W-2, Proof of Income/Bank Statement, or Tax Forms
These documents contain information that explains your income and taxes paid. They will help to prove your eligibility by providing historical evidence on the amount of money you earn and then can be compared to the cost of your bills.
  4. Bills Due or Proof of Financial Obligations
Always bring the bills and paperwork for the type of assistance you are requesting. For example, if you need assistance with your utility bill, bring a copy of the bill that is sent to you which should include the date notified, due date, the renter or homeowner’s full name, residential address, and the amount due.

These are some common pieces of information that are necessary when requesting housing assistance. Depending on the type or amount of assistance you need, some of these items may not be necessary, and other items may also be required.
