Counseling, Complementary Therapies and Case Management from Licensed Social Workers

Over the last 25 years there has been extensive research on the positive effects of support groups as a method of coping with cancer, improving quality of life, and in some studies — even increasing survival. Research has shown that support groups help reduce the three most significant stressors associated with cancer: unwanted aloneness, loss of control, and loss of hope. In fact, research conducted at the Cancer Support Community has shown that people who participate in support groups, either face-to-face or online, report significant decreases in depression, increased zest for life, and a new attitude toward their illness.

Cancer Care Services provides individualized help through a caring and compassionate team of trained staff and volunteers. Our licensed social workers are eager to connect cancer patients and their caregivers with helpful resources that are available to meet their financial, emotional, social and spiritual needs.

These services are provided by Cancer Care Services at no cost, regardless of income. Emotional programs are available for most ages, including children. Some of our kid-focused programs include a summer day camp, play expression/therapy, and various activities. For a current list of support groups and other emotional support activities, please check our activities calendar frequently.
